Portrait of Prof Kamal unveiled at DU

A portrait of Professor Kamal Uddin Ahmed, founding director of Dhaka University’s Institute of Nutrition and Food Science (INFS), was unveiled inside the institute in observance of its Golden Jubilee. Dhaka University (DU) Vice-chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman unveiled the portrait as the chief guest in a function on Wednesday. Kamal Uddin was a prominent academician and world class researcher. He contributed a lot in enhancing the education as well as building a modern laboratory in the institute, said Akhtaruzzaman. Director of the institute Dr Sk Nazrul Islam, former director Dr Nazma Shaheen, teachers, students and official were present on the occasion. A series of programs were chalked out to observe its Golden Jubilee (50th founding anniversary) which include rally, cutting cake, inauguration of research poster, recalling memory, presentation of scientific article and cultural event.
BU entry tests begin today

The admission test for the first year honours courses for 2019-20 academic session at Barishal University will begin today. The admission tests were scheduled for October 18-19 have been postponed. About 35 students will vie for each seat in the in admission tests of Barishal University. Prof Muhsinuddin, member of the core committee for conducting admission test of BU, said the date of intake test was rescheduled after Dr Md Sadekul Arefin (Arefin Matin) appointed as VC of BU and he joined on November 6. He said total 49,956 candidates have been enrolled their names to participate in ninth intake test of BU for 1,440 seats of 24 subjects under six faculties divided into ‘Ka’,’Kha’ and ‘Ga’ units. Among them 13,271 candidates applied for changing departments or units. On Friday, the admission test of ‘Kha’ unit will be held from 10am to 11am, ‘Ga’ unit from 3pm to 4pm on BU campus and 17 other venues. On Saturday the entry test of ‘Ka’ unit will be held from 11am to 12:30 pm at the same venues. Detailed information is available on website www.admission.eis.bu.ac.bd.
2-day HSC reunion at Rajshahi College today

A two-day reunion celebration of the HSC alumnus of Rajshahi College, one of the oldest and largest educational institutions in the country, will start today amidst joy and enthusiasm. Established in 1873, the college is going to host this type of festival for its old and current students for the first time in its long history. So far, more than 10,000 persons including some 8,400 alumnus from 1947 to 2021 have registered their names to attend the celebration, said Prof Habibur Rahman, Principal of the college. Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni is expected to attend the opening ceremony as chief guest while State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam and State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak as special guests. Prof Rahman added that Rajshahi College has been adjudged as the country’s best educational institution for the fourth consecutive year for its outstanding performance in the academic arena since 2016. The Ministry of Education in the National Education Week-2019 Competition held last June has ranked the college as the country’s best institution. Professor Rahman also said every year the education ministry brings all the colleges throughout the country under ranking in terms of its 19 indicators including number of students and their results, number of the highest degree-holding teachers, college environment, water and sanitation. National University also declared the college as the countries best one based on its ranking. It is said to be the third oldest institutions of higher education in Bangladesh after Dhaka College and Chittagong College. Within a short period after its establishment in 1873, the college became one of the main centres of higher education for the inhabitants of East Bengal, North Bengal, Bihar and Assam.
