Woman found dead in Habiganj
UNB, Habiganj

Police recovered the body of an unidentified woman from a paddy field at Rajiura in Sadar upazila yesterday. On information, police recovered the body around 1:30am, said Md Masuk Ali, officer-in-charge of Habiganj Sadar Police Station. Police say they initially suspect that the victim had been strangled to death. Imitation ornaments and a ticket of ENA Paribahan from Dhaka to Habiganj were found in her vanity bag, officer-in-charge Ali said. Later, the body was sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.


Man, 65, arrested for ‘rape’ of fifth grader in Chandpur
UNB, Chandpur

Police arrested an elderly man over the alleged rape of a fifth grader in Haziganj upazila’s Lodhpara village on Wednesday. The arrestee was identified as Sultan Kabiraj, 65, son of late Ramjan Ali of the village. Locals said Sultan raped the 11-year-old girl on December 23 at his house. Md Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Haziganj Police Station, said they arrested Sultan and sent the victim to Chandpur Sadar Hospital for medical test. A local court sent the rape suspect to jail after he was produced before it.


Jamalpur train service resumes after six hours
UNB, Jamalpur

The rail communication between Mymensingh and Jamalpur resumed after six hours of suspension following derailment of a local train at East Fulbaria in the district town yesterday. A compartment of the local train 'No 253 UP’ went off the tracks around midnight, said Shahidul Islam, station master of Jamalpur Railway Station. On information, a relief train from Mymensingh came and cleared the rail tracks in the morning after three hours’ efforts. The derailment also delayed Dhaka-bound intercity train ‘Jamuna Express’ by four hours, he added.


Two killed in train accident
BSS, Kushtia

Two labourers were killed as a train hit a trolley at a level crossing near Poradah junction in the district on Tuesday. The deceased were identified as Kawsar, 35 and Mohidul, 40, of Ramnagar village under Mirpur upazila. Poradah Station Master Shoriful Islam said the accident took place at around 10 am at Katdahochar level crossing. Officer-in-Charge of Mirpur Thana Abul Kalam said police has visited the spot.


Jamalpur primary students to get 19.5 lakh books
BSS, Jamalpur

Education Department will disburse 19 lakh 50 thousand 319 text books among the students of primary schools in the district on the first day of the next year. According to District Primary Education Office (DPEO) sources, 88,000 books for pre-primary students , 2,67,978 books for class one, 2,58,438 books for class two , 4,76,503 books for class three , 4,56,595 books for class four and 3,99,835 books for class five students have been allocated in the district. District Primary Education Office, Mohammad Abdur Razzak said all text books have already been dispatched in all seven upazilas of the district for distribution among the students on January 1, next year.
