Bagerhat: Poverty could not stand in the way of Chayan Poddar scoring GPA 5 in this year’s SSC examinations and the young talent has attributed this success to his motto of remaining serious in studies, braving the obstacles, reports UNB. “I continued my study with the hard-earned money of my mother as well as the assistance of others. One can come up with good results overcoming all the obstacles, if one remains serious in the study,” he told UNB. Chayan, son of Sumonto Poddar and Shefali Rani Poddar of Grisnagar village in Mollahat upazila, continued his study amid myriads of problems as his father had been seriously ill and earned no more for years. Besides continuing the study, he used to help his mother, who is the lone bread earner for the family, at her work in crop fields owned by others in the locality. His bright performance in the SSC has not only shed a light of joy at her mother’s face, his teachers and neighbours have also appreciated the boy, though it was not a surprise to them at all when the results were published on May 30. Chayan, who also stood first in the district’s scholarship test for class VIII and sounds fairly sensitised for his age, did not forget to thank his teachers and neighbours on this occasion. “Teachers at school provided me with all kinds of supports. My result is an outcome of all the supports I got from all,” he said adding that he wants to become an engineer. Chayan’s mother Shefali also hoped that one day he will be able to hold his head high in society and bring fame for the country. Chayan has two sisters. Krishna Poddar - his eldest has been married off - while Mitu Poddar - the youngest - is doing her BA at Mollahat College.
