An eight-year-old girl was killed allegedly after rape by unknown miscreants at Narikeltala under EPZ Police Station in the city yesterday. The victim was identified as Tania, daughter of Habul Mia, hailing from Kendua upazila of Netrakona district. She was a student of class II of Mohammadia Primary School of Narikeltala area. After killing the girl, the miscreants threw the body packed in a sack into a pond of the area. Police recovered the body around 10am. “After conducting investigation, we could confirm that the child was first raped and then strangled. We found many injury marks on the body. The assailants rapped the minor and killed her thorough strangulation and then threw the body packed in a sack into the pond. However, we could not yet dig out the motive or who were involved in the incident,” said Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge (OC) of EPZ Police Station. “The girl was living with her maternal uncle in Narikeltala area of the city. On Thursday around 7:30pm, she was sent to buy betel-leaf from a nearby shop for her grandmother and since then she had not returned. On Thursday, the matter was informed to police. On Friday morning, local people informed it to us after seeing the body floating in the pond, said the OC. The body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
