The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has launched a pilot project with Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) to increase the quality and reliability of the BRTC bus service, said a press release. Working with GoBD, a local Bangladesh start-up that provides real-time traffic data, UNDP & BRTC are working to equip BRTC buses with Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to provide real-time estimates of the length of the bus trips and other information along the Abdullahpur-Motijheel route, delivered through the Go Traffic mobile application, said the release. The BRTC Chairman, Mizanur Rahman was quoted in the press release as saying “I extremely appreciate UNDP supporting BRTC through this initiative”. More information is expected to be announced at the Bangladesh Development Forum to be held on November 15 and 16 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre. BRTC and UNDP with the support of Bangladesh government will present the pilot at the Data Revolution Section of the forum, says the press release.
