BNP senior leader Hafizuddin Ahmed yesterday warned that their party will resist any government move to remove their party founder Ziaur Rahman’s grave from the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban area, reports UNB. “It’s a matter of sorrow that a plot is on to relocate the grave of former president Ziaur Rahman. It’ll be the worst stigmatised chapter of Bangladesh’s history of politics of vengeance if the grave is taken way from the Jatiya Sangsad area,” he told a discussion. Hafiz, a BNP vice chairman, further said, “We would like to make it clear that as long as BNP leaders and activists are alive they will resist any such evil move with their all efforts.” The Dhaka city south unit of Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha arranged the discussion at the Jatiya Press Club, marking the ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’. According to media reports, the Housing and Public Works Ministry has recently proposed removal of eight graves of renowned personalities, including Zia’s one, from the Jatiya Sangsad area as those were not in the original design of American architect Louis I Kahn who designed Bangladesh’s national parliament complex.
