Lalita Devarakonda of India had to sweat much to down Runa Ichinos of Japan by 2-1 sets in a girls’ singles semifinal match of 39th Bangladesh ITF Junior Tennis Tournament yesterday at the Zafar Imam Tennis Complex in Rajshahi.
Lalita won the entertaining semifinal 6-1, 6-7, 7-5. She will take on Lian Tran of The Netherlands in the final. The Dutch girls eliminated Haibo Zhao of China in the other semifinal.
Four boys’ singles quarterfinals were also decided on the day. Title contender Dhruba Sunish of India beat Jugeshan Gansen of Malaysia 6-1, 6-1. M Patel also of India downed Hazem Naow of Syria 6-2, 6-2, P Somani of India outplayed Su Yu-Hsiang of Chinese Taipei 6-1, 6-4 and Ishaque Iqbal another contender from India beat his compatriot Adiyta Senthil Kumar 7-5, 6-4 in the other three quarterfinals.
