The proposed budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year, placed yesterday by Finance Minister AMA Muhith, suggested the increases in taxes and duties of some goods while cutting down on some others.
Based on these suggestions, the prices of a number of goods including cigarettes, mobile phone SIMS, LP gas cylinders, butter and dairy products may increase while prices of medicines along with books, children ware, shoes, biscuits, mosquito coils and some other essentials are likely to go down. However, revisions of taxes and duties in the budget are not always reflected in their retail prices.
Prices of items likely to go up next year: Mobile phone SIM cards, LP gas cylinders, butter & dairy products, LCD / LED TV, electric fan, batteries, battery run vehicles, cng run auto-rickshaws, cigarettes (low &high priced), vehicle tyres, nonpolished diamonds, imitation jewellery, leather goods, steel tube pipes, kitchenware, bathroom fittings, sanitary wares, safety glass, glass mirrors, sound & DVD recorders, casette players, car seats, silk yarns, sulphuric acid, imported vegetables, fish items, imported betel nuts, iron materials, revolver and pistol.
Prices may go down: Medicines, books, apartments, computer, energy saving lamp, digital camera, web cam, children’s dress, toys, toothbrush, jam and jelly, biscuits, pasta, glucose, chocolates and wafer biscuits, suits and blazers, shoes, plastic wares, tissue papers, door and window frames, lubricants, grease, carton box, sports jersey, men’s shirt, mosquito coil, gloves, artificial flowers, poultry and dairy feeds.
