Two Bangladeshi courts on November 8 handed capital punishment to six men over the brutal killings of two 13-year-old boys that provoked national outrage.
In Sylhet, 10 people were found guilty and four of them sentenced to hang for killing Samiul Alam Rajon, who was tied to a pole and beaten mercilessly on July 8. A video footage of the torture went viral on social media, prompting street protests and demand for justice. Six other accused were given jail sentences, ranging from one year to life in prison.
In Khulna, a motor garage owner and his assistant were given death penalties for torturing Rakib, a former employee, with an air compressor inserted into his rectum that led to his death on August 3.
