On October 21, Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan attended the China-UK Creative Industry Show held at Lancaster House in London during his state visit to the UK. At the invitation of Universal Music Group, four actors/actresses of Yunnan Nanjian Tiaocai Dancing Troupe joined the famous singer Sa Dingding in a performance at the China-UK Creative Industry Show, marking a stunning debut for Nanjian Tiaocai Dancing in Europe.
Nanjian County is the birthplace of the unique Chinese Tiaocai Dancing. Nanjian Tiaocai Dancing, dating back to the primitive matriarchal society and popular in the Tang Dynasty, represents the source of Nanjian ethnic culture. Tiaocai Dancing, literally serving dishes by dancing, combines dance, music and food and is a ritual performed for distinguished guests. It includes two types: the “Banquet Tiaocai Dancing” and the “Stage Tiaocai Dancing”. In 2008, as a treasure of China’s food culture and ethnic arts, Nanjian Tiaocai Dancing was inscribed onto China’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
