Indira Gandhi Culture Centre (IGCC) is organising an evening of Bangla songs of olden days by Masud Ahmed tomorrow at the IGCC’s Gulshan premises in the city.
Masud Ahmed is the Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh. He took primary lessons in vocal music at Jhankar Lalitokola Academy from 1974. Then he learnt classical music under Ustad Barin Majumdar and Ustad Akhtar Sadmanee. Due to professional engagements, Ahmed could not take music professionally. However, he has been making renditions regular for the last 12 years in BTV, Shilpakala Academy, National Museum, Chhayanaut etc. He is a member of musical organizations like ‘Mridongo’, ‘Sreejon’ and ‘Shurodohoni’. He received ‘Fulkoli’ gold medal, Manna Dey Award and Bangobondhu Academy Award for his contribution to modern Bangla and Nazrul songs. He has released an album titled ‘Bonotol Jhora Fule Chaoa’ from Universal Music Company.
A life member of Bangla Academy, Ahmed has written 107 short stories and 7 novels. Based on his literary creation, 10 telefilms and drama series have been prepared for different TV channels. His English fiction (on the liberation struggle of Bangladesh) ‘Dusk Dawn and Liberation’ has been published by Author House, London, and it has received a good readership in the UK, and the USA. In literature, Ahmed has received various awards, including ‘Dr. Shahidullah Literary Award’.
