Urmi Akhter was only the Bangladeshi shuttlers who could shine in the second day of the ongoing Yonex-Sunrise International badminton tournament moving into the pre-quarterfinal yesterday.
Held at the Shaheed Tajuddin Indoor Stadium (Wooden Floor Gymnasium) Urmi Akhter snatched the victory when she defeated her Malaysian opponent Maishafthulla Ismail after a hard fought by 13-21, 21-17 and 25-23.
Urmi Akhter, who just moved into the second round after having walk-over in the first round against Thailand, trailed the first set by 13-21 points and came back in the second match with winning 21-17 points but had to struggle much to snatch the victory winning the last by 25-23 to move into the pre-quarterfinal.
But apart from, Urmi Akhter none of the Bangladeshi shutllers male or female could cross the second round hurdle when Gourov Singh, who could move into the second round, eliminated after going down to Adil Sholi Ali Sadikin very badly by 7-21 and 6-21.
Elina Sultana, who also moved into the second round in the women singles, could not cross this round when she suffered 7-21 and 10-21 points defeat to Indian Malvika Banshode.
Menahile, Urmi Akhter and Gourov Singh of Bangladesh also eliminated from the firs roud of the mixed doubles when V Kanjankiri-R Laisuan pair of Thailand by 21-12 and 21-13.
