The body of a Chinese national was recovered from the garden of a 11-storey building in Banani in the capital yesterday. The caretaker of the apartment complex in which the man lived discovered his body buried in the garden. The deceased was identified as Gaojain Hui, 47, a Chinese national and a stone supplier for the Padma bridge project, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) (Gulshan division) additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Abdul Ahad. After the police were informed, the Crime Scene unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) visited the spot and dug out the body.
The caretaker contacted the police upon discovering something unusual under the ground, said Banani police officer-in-charge (OC) Nur-a-Azam Mia. “The police suspect the Chinese national may have been murdered sometime during the night,” said Mia, adding that they are still gathering details about the incident.
“A part of the man’s name is ‘Gao’. The Chinese national lived with his family in house No. 82 on Banani’s Road No. 23,” Mia said. Six persons have already been questioned in this connection, the police official said. “The murdered person's family went to China around 20 days ago. His body was found buried next to the building in the morning,” a police officer told reporters at the scene. “Members of the CID’s crime scene unit are investigating the matter, but it is still unclear what happened to the man,” he added.
