A Dhaka court will deliver its verdict today in a parricide case filed over the killing of Special Branch officer Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Rahman.
On November 4, Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 Judge Md Sayeed Ahmed fixed the date after the trial proceedings of the case had ended.
The court fixed the date in presence three accused in the case: Oishee, daughter of Mahfuz and Swapna, and her two friends Asaduzzaman Johnny and Mizanur Rahman Roni. All three have been charged in the case.
Special Public Prosecutor Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman said they expect the highest punishment for the accused.
On the other hand, Advocate Faruk Ahmed, counsel for Oishee, said they expect to get the verdict in their favour as the prosecution failed to prove the charges against his client.
On August 16, 2013, Special Branch Inspector Mahfuzur and his wife Swapna were hacked to death in their apartment in the capital’s Malibagh.
Police recovered the bodies two days after the killing. The same day, 19-year-old Oishee surrendered to Paltan Police Station along with their domestic help Sumi.
