Suspected thief beaten dead

A young man was beaten to death by an angry mob after being suspected of a thief in Tongi of the city early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Selim, a resident of No-4 block of Earshadnagar. Sub-inspector Mesbahuddin of Tongi East Police Station said Selim went to Abdul Karim’s house at Earshadnagar around 2am. Sensing his presence, family members raised hue and cry when neighbours rushed in and caught Selim. Later, they gave him a good beating, leaving him dead on the spot.   On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy, the SI added.
