HC upholds death of Shakil

The High Court (HC) yesterday upheld death of one and life imprisonment of another two in a case lodged over murder of NTV journalist Atiqul Islam Atiq. A High Court Division bench comprising Justice Shahidul Karim and Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman passed the order after holding hearing on jail appeals and death reference in the case. The court yesterday upheld death sentence of Shakil Shikder and life imprisonment of Abdullah Md Ibne Ali Sarker alias Nahid and Md Forkan. According to the case documents, miscreants shot and killed Atiq in Moghbazar Rail Crossing area on February 13, 2009. Victim’s brother Abu Bakar Siddique filed the case with Ramna Police Station the next day. Police filed charge sheet in the case on August 9, 2009 and the lower court concerned on October 6, 2010, framed charges against four accused in the case.
