Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman yesterday said the government will award stipends for all students at primary level for encouraging them to continue study.
“The dropout rate has been reduced since the introduction of stipend programme for the children of poor families. The enrollment has now increased. We want to award stipends to all students at the primary level for encouraging them to continue study,” he said while addressing a seminar organised by Bangladesh Nari Pragati Sangha at BRAC Inn Centre in the capital.
At present, over 78 lakh families of students are getting financial assistance under different stipend programmes and an additional of 1.30 lakh students will get stipends after six months, according to the minister.
“At present, cent per cent students of poor families are getting stipend. We are giving it to ensure education for all and to reduce the dropout rate,” Mostafizur added.
