Skill dev must to face Industry 4.0

STAFF REPOTER, Dhaka

State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian yesterday said that the government would have to train the educated youths for their skills development to make them prepared for the 4th industrial revolution.

“According to the ILO, around two million new educated young people are coming into the job market every year. But, to accommodate them in this 4th industrial revolution transition period, we have to train them for skill development,” she said.

She said this while addressing a seminar organised by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce qne Industry (DCCI) on ‘Future Skill Development Required for Bangladesh’ at a hotel in the capital, a press statement said.

Monnujan said the existing academic curriculum cannot make skills for job and the country’s manufacturing sector is adopting technology day by day which may cut jobs. “But, it will create more innovative jobs as well.”

She said the government has established few Polytechnic Institutes across the country and allowed the private sector to come forward to establish more Polytechnic Institutes in the country.

PM’s Principal Secretary Nojibur Rahman, President of Bangladesh Employers’ Federation Kamran T Rahman were present at the programme.

Nojibur stressed the need for formulating a need-based curriculum coming out of the traditional system of education to create industry-demand employment.
