2 held over Barishal triple murder

Law enforcers have arrested two people over the killing of three people at a house in Banaripara upazila.

The arrestees were identified as Jakir Hossain, son of Chunnu Haldar, and his associate Jewel, residents of Roypasha village in Nalchiti upazila.

On Saturday, police recovered bodies of Mariam Begum, 75, and her son-in-law (daughter's husband) Mohammad Alam from her house at Saliabakpur while the body of Mariam's nephew Md Yusuf, 18, was recovered from a pond behind the house. Yusuf's hands and legs were tied with a rope. Inspector (Investigation) of Banaripara Police Station Zafar Ahmed Mariam's son Sultan Mahmud filed a case over the triple murder. Jakir was arrested on Saturday evening while Jewel at night, he said.

3 arrested along Jhenaidah border for intrusion

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) yesterday morning detained three people from bordering Lebutala in Maheshpur upazila for entering Bangladesh from India without valid travel documents.

The detainees, including two women, claimed that they are Bangladeshis and they went to India on separate occasions for treatment and work, said a press release of Maheshpur BGB battalion-58.

In November, BGB said, it detained 260 people for crossing the border from India illegally.

3 killed in Pirojpur road crash

UNB, Pirojpur

Three people, including a freedom fighter, were killed and two others injured as a bus crashed into an auto-rickshaw at Jhawtala in Mathbaria upazila yesterday morning.

Two of the deceased were identified as freedom fighter Abu Jafar Ahmed, 65, and Belal Hossain, 35, residents of Devipur in the upazila. The Pathargaht-bound bus hit the auto-rickshaw around 5:30am, killing a passenger on the spot and injuring four others, said Maksudur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Mathbaria Police Station.

The injured were sent to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal where doctors declared two of them dead.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to hospital for autopsy. They also seized the bus but its deriver and helper managed to flee the scene, the OC added.
