DSEX falls below 4400 points mark to hit 6-month low

DSEX, the barometer of the country's stock market, yesterday fell below 4400-point mark to hit six-month low at 4371.54 despite gains in some major sectors, reports BSS.
Bank, fuel and power, textile, pharmaceuticals and NBFI sectors advanced on the day amidst wider share price fall at the premier Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) where 189 securities ended lower. DSEX lost over 39 points due to the large-scaled price fall when the blue-chip DS30 ended 16.96 points down at 1664.51 and the Shariah DSES closed 11.16 points lower at 1054.99.
The activities also decreased, with the trade value plunging by 13.28 per cent to Tk 255 crore and the volume following the trend to stand at 7.69 crore shares with marginal fall.
Market analysts attributed the fall to the psychological breakdown of investors, fearing continual breaking of support levels of price indices.
The most losing shares of the day were Standard Insurance, Titas Gas, Dacca Dye, Aziz Pipe and Paramount when Sonali Ansh,  Gemini Sea, Asian Tiger, Pharma Aid and GHAIL were the major gainers of the day's 81 advancing securities.
Titas Gas maintained the top position of the turnover list followed by Saif Power, Ifad Autos, Beximco Pharma and Squire Pharma. Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed lower yesterday, with its major CSCX losing 58.15 points to finish at 8134.11.
Out of the day's 241 issues traded, only 55 gained and 148 incurred losses when over 62 lakh shares changed hands for Tk 19.30 crore.
