Former religious affairs secretary Abdul Awal died of kidney diseases at the United Hospital in the capital yesterday morning, reports BSS.
He was 81, family sources said. Awal, also an ex- secretary of the Jatiya Sangsad, left behind his wife, two sons, a daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
During the War of Liberation in 1971, he was severely injured by the Pakistani occupation forces while performing his duty as the deputy commissioner of Patuakhali district.
Awal was buried at Banani Graveyard after Asr prayers yesterday following a namaz-e-janaza at Banani Jame Mosque. A doa mahfil will be held at the residence of Abdul Awal after Asr prayers on Friday. Relatives, friends and well-wishers of the deceased have been requested to attend the doa mahfil and pray for eternal peace of the departed soul.
