Batting-friendly wickets in BPL likely

The wickets in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) were always a matter of discussion because of its low-scoring features in the erstwhile editions. During the special edition of the Bangabandhu-BPL, it will also be a matter of watching for all.

This time, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and BPL Governing Council have discussed the matter seriously and given the necessary directives to the curators at the three different host venues of the BPL across the country. BCB Director and its Media & Publication Committee chairman Jalal Younus acknowledged the matter of wickets in BPL what has been discussed in the board prior to the domestic blockbuster Twenty20 cricket Tournament. He said that wickets in BPL have to be batting friendly.

It is seen in Mirpur where the BCB chief curator Gamini de Silva and his ground troops have been working hard to prepare the pitches for the BPL at the SBNCS, known as the Home of Cricket. For this, the matches of the last National Cricket League (NCL) have been shifted to the other venues from the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) to focus more on the pitches so that those could be helped produce healthy scores what are demanded from T20 cricket.

“There was early thinking from the board that wickets should be built in such a way where more runs should be scored,” said Jalal Younus, who has been given the responsibility of the Chattogram Challengers as team director from the BCB.  “If more runs come in T20 matches, there is a chance for batting and bowling, then a chance for chasing a healthy total. When you take the challenge, it will be beneficial for the players and the team as well,” Jalal told media.

“When you play for the national team in the future, it will then be useful. So wicket has to be batting wickets,” he added. The Challengers Team Director said that the essence of T20 tournament lies while there will be scored plenty of runs in matches.

“The biggest words is that in T20, you can't say game who will click in T20 game. What I think is that wicket should be such where more runs will be scored. The tournament will be exciting where there will be scored plenty of runs,” he said. “If it is low scoring match, it will not then be attractive. So I want such high scoring wicket whether the team wins or loses that'd not matter. Many can be lost the match after chasing a big total,” he also said. “If any team can win after chasing 180, it will be a great tournament. In this tournament, if more runs will be scored, the players can since play swimmingly,” he concluded.
