A court here on Wednesday deferred again recoding testimonies of the witnesses in the ex-Finance Minister SAMS Kibria murder case.
Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Mokbul Ahsan deferred the testimony recording because nine of the 14 accused did not appear before the court yesterday due to their illness and other reasons. The court also fixed today for recording the testimonies. With this, recording testimonies in the case has been deferred for the forth time. Earlier, the recording of testimonies of the witnesses in the case had been deferred to October 28 and 29.
Five people, out of 171 witnesses, have so far given their depositions before the court.
On September 30, the court also started recording the testimony of Abdul Mozid Khan, former lawmaker of Habiganj-2 and plaintiff of the case.
On September 13, the court indicted 32 people, including former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar and suspended Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) mayor Ariful Haque, in the sensational murder case.
On January 27, 2005, five people, including Kibria, were killed and 70 others injured in a grenade attack on a rally of local Awami League at Baidder Bazar in Sadar upazila of Habiganj district. After the incident, Awami League leader Abdul Mozid Khan MP filed two cases-- one for murder and another under the Explosives Substances Act-- with the Habiganj Police Station on the following day.
Later Assistant Superintendent of CID Munshi Atique submitted a charge sheet against 10 BNP leaders and activists on March 19, 2005.
