Curtain rises on 9-day theatre festival today

With the slogan ‘I love in Bangla, I love Bangla’, the curtain rises on the 11th edition of ‘Prangane Mor Dui Banglar Natya Mela 2019’ today on the premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) Segun Bagicha in the capital. Organised by the country’s popular theatre troupe Prangane Mor, the festival is supported by Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh and High Commission of India.  

Like the previous years, the latest edition of Prangane Mor’s festival will present nine theatrical productions during the nine-day festival. The plays will be staged every day at 7pm.

Four theatre troupes based in West Bengal and Delhi and five prominent troupes from Bangladesh are going to participate in the festival.

The festival will be inaugurated by prominent cultural personality and actor Asaduzzaman Noor. State Minister of Cultural Affairs K M Khalid is scheduled to attend the ceremony as chief guest while High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das and Director General of BSA Liaquat Ali Lucky will be present as special guests at the ceremony.

Following the ceremony, Indian troupe Kolkata Proxy will stage its play ‘Art’, directed Goutam Sarkar, at the National Theatre Hall of BSA.  

Other theatrical plays from India to be staged are—, Nandipat’s ‘Abrito’, Rosikota’s ‘Jento Hamlet’ and Green Room Theatre’s ‘Bismilla’ during the festival.

Bangladeshi theatre Aranyak will bring their acclaimed production ‘Mayur Singhason’ on stage during the festival. The other local plays are— Prachyanat’s ‘Pulsirat’, Bibarton Jessore’s ‘Koiborto Gatha’, Loko Natyadal (Siddhewsari)’s ‘Amra Tinjon’ and host troupe Prangane Mor’s ‘Hasonjaner Raja’. l
