Over the past two years, tourists have enjoyed increasingly better experiences while travelling in Yunnan. That is because the province has applied strong measures to address irregularities on its tourism market and introduced smart tourism, including hassle-free refunds.
In November 2019, Ms. Wang from Chengdu (Sichuan) was planning to travel to Puzhehei scenic area in Wenshan (Yunnan) with a tourist group. Before departure, she received a message on her mobile phone from the national tourism supervision platform. Following the link in the message, she signed an e-contract with the travelling agency. Wang said that the e-contract saved her time and she could check her order by entering a number on the tourism supervision platform.
Statistics show that from January to October, the complaints lodged on the national tourism supervision platform by tourists who visited Yunnan fell by 15 percent,brought the province from the 22nd place on the national tourism complaint ranking in January, down to the 27th place in October.
A tourist named Kong Limei recently stayed at the Lijiang Sedona Smart Hotel. After leaving the hotel, she posted a series of pictures in her WeChat moments, to express her satisfaction. "You can select the check-in time and type of room through the Go-Yunnan app, or through the self-service terminal at the front desk. You can also check out by yourself, so you don’t need to queue,” she posted.
Tourists can do much more than just check out with the Go-Yunnan app, which is part of the Yunnan at Your Fingertips program. The app provides three channels. For instance, there is the online customer service, the phone hotline and voice call service, for tourists to lodge complaints, make inquiries, or report itinerary problems. Usually matters will be resolved within 24 hours. Tourists can also rent a car, book flights, choose from local delicacies, find out about names of places and plants and purchase gifts to take home, all through the app.
It is possible to complete a refund application in seven minutes, and receive the refund within two days. In August, Mrs. Li from Qingdao went to a refund service point at Kunming Changshui Airport. She had paid 10,000 RMB (1,422.31 U.S. dollar) for a Huanglong jade item but then wanted to return it. "Customer service immediately contacted the business. Then she helped me to find an express company to return the item. My gratitude was beyond words," said Li.
So far, Yunnan has set up a network of 350 refund supervision centres or service points, covering all the airports, eight high-speed rail stations, all scenic spots rated AAA or above and large hotels in the province.
