Jatiya Protibondhi Complex 'Subarno Bhaban' constructed on the premises of National Foundation for Development of the Disabled Persons in the capital’s Mirpur area will be inaugurated tomorrow (December 5). Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will open the 15-storey building, Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed said yesterday. Altogether, 300 boys and 300 girls with disabilities will be rehabilitated at the complex with residential, education, treatment and training facilities, he said while speaking at the Secretariat on the occasion of the 28th International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPWD) and 21st National Day of People with Disabilities. This year, the IDPWD was observed with the theme "The Future is Accessible". People with disabilities will get eight types of facilities in the complex, which was constructed at a cost of Tk 100 crore, the minister said. The government is working with 12 types of disabilities, he said, adding that there are 1679,000 people with disabilities in the country and most of them were brought under allowance facilities.
