President’s Ctg visit

BCL relaxes strike at CU for 3 days

UNB, Chattogram

A faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Chittagong University (CU) unit yesterday announced to relax their indefinite strike for three days from today as President Abdul Hamid is scheduled to visit Chattogram on Thursday. Rezaul Haque Rubel, president of CU unit BCL, on Monday afternoon said the President is set to join the convocation of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet) on Thursday. “So, we’ve decided to relax the strike for three days on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday,” he said. Witnesses said two factions of BCL -- CFC and VX -- had locked into clashes several times over establishing supremacy on the campus in the past few days.

A fresh clash erupted between the two groups when news about hacking two leaders of the CFC group spread on Sunday evening. Police fired two rounds of tear shell shells to control the situation. Later, CFC group called the indefinite strike from Monday morning demanding arrest of the attackers. On Saturday, law enforcers also seized a large number of local arms after searching six residential halls.

Rezaul Haque, a leader of CFC group, said, “We gave the administration more time to arrest the perpetrators. Or else, our movement will continue.” Meanwhile, no teachers’ bus left the campus since the morning and examinations of several departments were postponed due to the strike.
