World Wide Duplicate Bridge Contest today

World Wide Duplicate Bridge Contest will be held today at the Engineers Recreation Centre in the capital under the auspices of Bangladesh Bridge Federation (BBF).
The BBF is organising the tournament as part of World Bridge Day like other 122 affiliated countries of World Bridge Federation on the first Friday of June each year and almost on the same time.  The World Bridge Federation has decided to this year’s event to Nepal earthquake victim.
The two-day old new committee is lucky to make their debut in the country’s bridge arena with organising one of the biggest world bridge contests under the leadership of its news president Mushfiqur Rahman Mohon, who is also a prominent figure in the country’s cricket arena as he owns Duronta Rajshahi one of the BPL teams.
BBF vice-presidents Ghulam Mohammad Alamgir and Abdul Jalil Miah and general secretary Lt Col (retd) Mosharraf Hossain also spoke on the occasion.
Over 50 pairs are expected to play in the World Wide Duplicate Contract Bridge and according to a first had knowledge from the World Bridge Federation over 1 million players will participate in the tournament.
Mohon in his first meet with the media as BBF president said that they want to introduce the game in every remote area of the country. “It would be our prime duty to realise the guardians to encourage their wards to play the game. We should also relay the message to all people  that bridge is an intellectual game.”
“I think if we could motivate  the youth society to play the game for fun and stay away from gambling. Definitely the youth brigade would give up all bad habits and try to develop their intellectual level for the development work of the country,” said Mohon who is also a leading chess organiser of the country.
The BBF organisers replying to a query said that two or three times Bangladesh players finished within top 30 pairs.
Deputy youth and sports minister Arif Khan Joy will inaugurate the tournament today at 3.30 pm as chief guest. Later the secretary general of Bangladesh Olympic Association Syed Shahed Reza will distribute prizes. The BBF is planning to award Taka 88,000 as prize money to winners of first category players.  
The BBF donated Taka 26,000 to injured ex-national footballer Tanvir for his treatment.
