High Court asks govt

The High Court (HC) yesterday directed the government to provide logistic support to mobile courts so that the certified copies of their verdicts could be released quickly. The HC bench, comprising Justice M. Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman, directed the home secretary to comply with its order while hearing a writ petition filed by Md Mizan Miah, who awarded a six-month jail sentence by a mobile court. On July 18, the mobile court, led by Sarowar Alam, sentenced one year’s imprisonment to Md Mizan Miah, manager of a cattle feed-producing factory, at Siddhirganj in Narayanganj under the Fish Feed and Animal Feed Act 2010. Mizan Miah, who is currently in jail, applied to the mobile court on July 21 for a certified copy of the order, but he is yet to receive the copy of the verdict. Earlier, on November 18, the same bench of the HC had summoned Sarwar Alam to appear before it to explain his position for not providing the copy of the verdict to Mizan.
Sarowar Alam appeared before the HC yesterday morning as per its November 18 order and offered unconditional apology for not giving the certified copy of his order to Mizan Miah. During the hearing, Alam told the court that he could not  release the certified copy to Md Mizan on time due to shortage of logistical support. He also said he would be careful to provide the certified copy of the mobile court verdict in future. The HC bench accepted the apology and passed the order with disposing of the writ petition. Advocate Masud Hasan Chowdhury Parag appeared for Alam, while deputy attorney general Tushar Kanti Ray represented the state and barrister Shakhawat Hossain Khan appeared for Mizan during yesterday’s proceedings.
