LAUNCH ATTACKED IN PATUAKHALI

Three staff of a launch were injured after water transport workers, who decided to continue their strike, attacked the vessel when it reached Patuakhali from Dhaka yesterday morning.
Witness said some the protesting workers attacked the staff of Russel-4 around 6:30am. The injured were admitted to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Mustafizur Rahman, OC of Sadar Police Station.
Water transport workers withdrew their countrywide strike on Saturday night after a fruitful discussion with the
government.
They were pressing the authorities to accede to their 11-point demand, including an increase in wages. Thousands of people suffered during the strike lasting 11 hours. The movement of all types of vessels had remained suspended on 33 routes, including Dhaka's Sadarghat, Chandpur, Barishal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Bhandaria and Jhalakathi.
SHERPUR CHILD RAPE SUSPECT HELD

A man, accused of raping a PEC examinee, was arrested from Mymensingh city on Saturday afternoon, the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) said at night.
The arrestee was identified as Habibullah, 35, son of Lal Mia of Shimultola village in Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur.
Rab-14 Company Commander Tofayel Ahmed said Habibullah, the victim's neighbour, used to escort the 11-year-old to and from her exam centre. On November 24, he took the girl to a hill in the pretext of sightseeing and raped her.
TRAINING ON SWIMMING HELD

Jhenidah District Sports Office gave away certificates among fifty students after completion month long swimming training programme, was held at Bhutiargati Government Primary School premises
on Friday.
District Sports Officer (DSO), Mahbubur Rahman presided over the programme while purbanchal swimming club chief advisor Kazi Golam Hyder attended as chief guest. Club advisor Tipu Sultan and founding general secretary Tarikul Islam attended as special guests. District sports office of Jhenidah handed over a sound box to the participants during the programme. DSO sources said they conducted the training under yearly sports progrmme of the ministry of youth and sports which started on October 31. Trainer Tarikul Islam conducted the month long training course for the trainees.
‘DRUG PEDDLER’ HELD IN C’NAWABGANJ

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged drug peddler with 24 bottles of foreign liquor from Koilabari Truck stand area under Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Saturday night.
The arestee was identified as Md. Jewel, 26, son of Md. Jamal Uddin of Gazipur village under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district. RAB said, acting on detective information, an operation team of RAB-5 from Chapainawabganj camp raided the aforesaid area at around 7.40 pm and arrested Jewel with foreign liquor.
