5 killed in Cox’s Bazar, Kushtia road crashes

At least five people were killed in two road accidents in Kushtia and Cox’s Bazar yesterday. In Kushtia, 3 people were killed as a CNG-run auto rickshaw crashed into a bus on Kushtia-Meherpur highway in Nawapara area of Mirpur upazila. One of the deceased was identified as Hamidul Islam, 55 of Talbari area, while identities of two others could not be known yet. Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station, said the accident took place around 6 pm, leaving three passengers of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot.

In Cox’s Bazar, two including a school student were killed and three others were injured after being dashed by a mini truck at a bridal party at Jhilotja union of Sadar upazila.

The accident took place at Banglabazar area of the upazila at 3pm in the afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Farhad, 16, a 10th grader of Khorulia High School and Abul Boshor, 70, of Moktarkul area.

Police could not confirm the identity of the injured.

Abu Abdullah, OC of Cox’s Bazar Tulbagan Hawa Crossing police station, informed that some people of a bridal party assembled at a marriage

ceremony by the side of Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway. However, at this time a Ramu -bound mini truck ploughed through the wedding crowd after losing control, leaving the two persons dead on the spot.

Later, the agitated people set the mini truck ablaze. Being informed, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
