The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture Ministry yesterday recommended privatising all non-profit sugar mills.
The recommendation came at its 8th meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban yesterday with committee chairman Begum Matia Chowdhury in the chair.
Committee members Agriculture Minister Dr M Abdur Razzaque, Muhammad Imajuddin Pramanik, M Mamunur Rashid Kiron and Hosne Ara joined the meeting.
The committee also recommended for taking a pilot project to make particular sugar mills profitable.
The committee suggested the concerned ministry to take necessary steps for increasing production of ‘Sagar’ and ‘Sabri’ bananas produced in Narshingdi.
