BCB seeks seven Indian players to play in two int’l matches

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has proposed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), seeking seven Indian players for the two international matches what they will host to celebrate Bangabandhu centenary birth anniversary in March, 2020.

India Today, a weekly English-based magazine of India, published the news quoting BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury.

They said that the BCB is communicating with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for Indian players to play the matches for Asia XI.

They claimed that the BCB demanded seven players, where wicketkeeper-batsman Mahindra Singh Dhoni’s name was in the top of the list. Regular captain Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja are the other players of the list.

“Bangladesh are going to host two international Twenty20 matches between Asia XI and World XI to mark the Bangabandhu centenary birth anniversary in March, 2020. For this, we’re communicating with the BCCI along with the other cricket boards across the world so that they give NOC to their players for the matches,” Nizamuddin Chowdhury said.

The government has announced the timeframe of ‘March 17, 2020 to March 17, 2021’ as Mujib Barsho (Mujib year) on the eve of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary.

Along with that, they have chalked out a year-long comprehensive programme to celebrate Bangabandhu centenary birth anniversary. Of late, they have also decided to start the countdown of the Mujib Barsho from December 8, 2019.

There will be various arrangements from sports arena. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to host two exhibition matches with the participation of the current star and globe-trotting cricketers in between March 19-21 to mark the hundred birthday anniversary of the Bangabandhu.  

The matches will be played on Twenty20 format, wherein Asia XI will take on World XI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
