Public administration minister Syed Ashraful Islam said yesterday that it is not possible to do politics by shutting all doors for talks. “Doors for talks must always remain open in politics,” he added. Syed Ashraful Islam, also the general secretary of the ruling Awami League (AL), was speaking to reporters in Gazipur after attending a public rally organised to mark the 65th birth anniversary of the late AL leader Ahsanullah Master. He also called upon the BNP chairperson, Khaleda Zia, to return to constructive politics by shunning the path of destruction. “We hope good sense will eventually prevail upon Khaleda Zia and she will return to healthy politics. Only then, a congenial atmosphere for talks could be created,” he said. “A dialogue is not held during war times. The environment conducive to holding a discussion will be created only if Khaleda Zia shuns the path of destruction. A dialogue can never be fruitful if there is no congenial atmosphere for it,” he added.
