307 held in six dists

Police in separate drives yesterday arrested 307 people including activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir from six districts. Our Jhenidah correspondent reports: Police early yesterday arrested 17 Jamaat-Shibir activists in five upazilas over suspicion of subversive activities. Azbahar Ali Sheikh, additional police superintendent of Jhenidah, said police conducted the drives in different areas of the district early in the morning and arrested them.  Later, the arrested were sent to jail, said the ASP.
 In Satkhira: A ‘joint force’ of different agencies arrested 46 people, including 36 activists of Jamaat-Shibir, from different places of the district yesterday morning. A team of the ‘joint force’, comprising members of police, Rapid Action Battalion and Border Guard Bangladesh, conducted the drive in different areas of seven upazilas of the district from Sunday night to yesterday morning and held the 46 people, said sub-inspector of the special branch of Satkhira police Enamul Haque. Among the arrestees, 10 are from Sadar, three from Kalaroa, two from Tala, seven from Kaliganj, four from Shyamnagar, four from Ashashuni, 12 from Debhata, and four from Patkelghata upazilas.
In Laxmipur:  Police arrested 55 persons including 20 BNP-Jamaat men from different areas of Laxmipur. The arrestees were sent to jail yesterday afternoon. Additional superintendent of police Nazim Miah said they were arrested in several cases including sabotage case.  
In C’nawabganj: Police in an overnight drive from Sunday night till early yesterday arrested 41 people from different upazilas of the district. Al Mamun, additional superintendent of police, said police arrested 14 people from Sadar upazila, eight from Shibganj, six from Gomostopur upazila, eight from Nachole and 5 from five other upazilas. Among the arrestees, three were Jamaat-Shibir men, added the ASP. In Dinajpur: A total of 122 people, including 76 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat, were arrested from 13 upazilas of the district. Of them, 24 were arrested from Kotowali area, 12 from Birol, 11 from Chirirbandar, six from Parbatipur, eight from Birganj, 14 from Khansama, six from Kaharole, seven from Phulbari, 10 from Birampur, five from Nababganj, 14 from Hakimpur, 10 from Ghoraghat and one from Bechaganj upazilas of the district, said sources from Dinajpur police. They were arrested in connection with different cases filed for subversive activities. In Sirajganj: Police in a drive arrested 26 people, including nine leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir from different areas in sadar upazila. The drive was conducted in Bagbati, Khokshabari, Ratankandi in sadar upazila and different parts of the town.
