A cattle thief suspected was allegedly lynched by people at Sengaon village in Chandpur sadar upazila early yesterday. The deceased has been identified as Mostafa Gazi, 35, of Ketua village of the same upazila. OC of sadar police station Mamunur Rashid quoting local people said a gang of robbers entered the premises of a house at around 3 am in a bid to steal cattle. Sensing their presence, villagers surrounded the gang and caught Mostafa while the others managed to flee. The angry mob gave him a good beating, leaving him dead on the spot. Ashikathi union parishad chairman Delwar Hossain Khan informed the matter to police. Sub-Inspector Pradip Kumar took the body to the police station and filed a case in this connection.
