Six sentenced to death for killing child

A Mymensingh court awarded death sentence to six people yesterday in the child Farhad murder case. Judge Mohammad Johirul Kabir of the Additional District and Session Judge Court No-2, in his verdict, also awarded life-term imprisonment to a woman.
Eight year old child Farhad was abducted and killed in Kheruajani village of the district on May 4, 2010 following a dispute between his father Ayub and others.
Those awarded death penalty are Saheb Ali, 35, his father Abdul Quddus, 60, Mohammad Jewel, 35, his father Ibrahim alias Ibra, 55, Abdul Mazid Madhu, 70, and Montaz Ali Monta, 60, all residents of Kheruajani village in Muktagacha upazila of Mymensingh, said court inspector Nowjesh Ali Miah. Among the convicts, Saheb Ali is currently absconding.

The court also handed down life-term imprisonment to Kamola Khatun, 50, mother of Saheb Ali. According to the case details, there was a longstanding feud between Ayub Ali and the convicts in Kheruajani village over land ownership and other family matters.
After an incident of heated debate, the convicts, on May 4, 2010 abducted Ayub’s 8-year old son Farhad. Later, the boy was murdered and his body was hidden in a deep hole near Ayub’s house. Locals discovered the body of Farhad, wrapped in polythene sheet, on May 7 and informed police, court sources said. After discovery of the body, victim’s father Ayub lodged a case with Muktagacha Police Station on the same day. Sub-inspector Omar Ali, the investigation officer in the case, filed a charge sheet against seven people following an investigation.
Examining the witnesses and evidences, Judge Mohammad Johirul Kabir of the Additional District and Session Judge Court No-2 delivered the verdict in the case yesterday.
After the verdict, Ayub Ali, the plaintiff of the case, expressed his satisfaction and  said he is happy over the verdict as the killers of his son has been awarded due punishment. The convicts were taken to Mymensingh Jail after the verdict.
