Vitamin �A� plus campaign begins in Khulna Nov 14

Civil Surgeon of Khulna district Dr Md Yasin Ali Sardar yesterday at a press conference urged all the officials and others concerned to make the November 14 National Vitamin ‘A’ plus campaign-2015 (2nd round) a total success. Dr Yasin said the vitamin ‘A’ plus supplement is helpful for reducing the severity and duration of illnesses associated with pneumonia and diarrhea. Referring to the World Health Organisation (WHO) guideline, he said, children should begin vitamin ‘A’ supplement at the age of six months but unfortunately, children aged between 6 and 9 months do not get the supplement despite various interventions. He said vitamin ‘A’ supplement is essential for the normal functioning of the visual system, maintenance of cell function for growth, red blood cell production, immunity and reproduction. Civil Surgeon of Khulna Dr Yasin Ali made this comment at a views exchange meeting with local journalists at School Health Clinic, Khulna under Sadar police station in the city. Khulna City Corporation (KCC) and Civil Surgeon Office of Khulna jointly arranged the programme to prevent malnutrition and child blindness.
President of Khulna Press Club Mokbul Hossain Mintu, Health Officer of KCC Dr Swapon Kumar Halder, Health expert of Civil Surgeon Office Dr Tanmoy Prokash Ghosh, spoke on the occasion. The organisers said the babies of 6 months to 1 year age-group will immunise with a ‘Blue Colour’ Vitamin-A capsule and the other babies with a ‘Red Colour’ Vitamin-A capsule for preventing night blindness. Besides, a large number of municipality’s volunteers are continuing immunisation the babies at their houses, rail stations, bus stands, launch stations and other important places to bring all children under the programme by Nov 14 next. Other speakers said the media has a vital role towards making the campaign a total success.
