BTRC Chairman Shahjahan Mahmud yesterday vowed to address the problems of call termination on a priority basis. He also said BTRC would fix a call termination benchmark for all the operators.
Shahjahan Mahmud, who has taken the Charge of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on October 26, was exchanging views with the members of Telecom Reporters’ Network, Bangladesh (TRNB) at his office.
Mahmud also hinted that he would seek intervention from the `highest level` to collect the outstanding dues from different operators.
“Our (BTRC) legal department is working in a bid to realise the outstanding dues, but also some legal firms have been assigned in this regard.” said Mahmud.
‘‘But you know this issue may not be resolved through only legal steps. So we may seek the intervention from the highest level of the government to collect the dues from the operators,” he added.
Commenting on the issue of quality of services, Mahmud said “as the second priority I would try ensure the quality of services for the mobile phone users.”
BTRC chief said “I must work for enhancing people’s trust. He urged all to overlook any propaganda against the BTRC”.
Talking on the issue of illegal VoIP business, Mahmud who worked for US Navy before joining BTRC, said “We will soon take help of technical experts to formulate a comprehensive “master plan” to curb the illegal uses of VoIP,” he added.
Mentioning his belief in transparency and openness, the BTRC Chief said if any organisation lacks those two qualities, that organisation would not be able to win people’s trust and respect.
Mahmud sought cooperation from the journalists as well as all the industry people for the betterment of the telecom sector.
