You have the right to know this information, and from now on you can get this information through a new app called ‘VAT Checker’. All you have to do is–just enter the ‘Business Identification Number’, which you will find in the bill, into the app and you will instantly take you towards the truth.
This app helps you not only to identify the unlisted organisations, but also to submit complaints. Using the ‘complain’ tab you can input all the information required and submit it to the authority, straightaway. Moreover, you can attach a picture of the bill and also have a space to write your statement.
The Idea of ‘Vat Checker’ came into a young mind; Nishan Ishtiaque who is currently studying in MIST. Nishan believes “It’s not that people don’t want to pay VAT. They do–they just need an opportunity. This app is developed to provide that opportunity to them.” He shared the idea with his university friend Jubayer Hossain, who has had past experience in developing mobile apps. Then they teamed up with Marzia Prova, who is a social activist, and app developer Asif Kamal Turzo to structure up the whole thing.
According to Jubayer Hossain, “VAT is one of the major sources of government revenue. For some dishonest individuals, the VAT you pay does not reach to the government. A little awareness from all of us can save our country from fraudulence like these.”
VAT checker was unveiled on October 16 of this year. So far, it has received positive responses from the public. Within this short period of time, it has been downloaded more than 11000 times. Over 700 people have rated the app, with an average of 4.9.
