Hospitable Bangladeshi people

By LiJie

Editor's Note: On May 11, as a part of" Retracing the Ancient Southern Silk Road, Exploring the New Piyot of China's Opening-up" joint interview programme , Yunnan Daily Press Group sent 5 journalists to Bangladesh on reporting missions. In the recent editions of Beautiful Yunnan, we will deyote a special column to telling readers about Bangladesh in the eyes of Chinese reporters. And this is the :rt story.

Speaking of Bangladesh, many people would think of the hot and humid weather. For me, however, the most memorable   thing about Bangladesh is the hospitable People.

When  asked about  my deepest impression of Bangladesh at the Chittagong Water Supply and Sewerage Authority, I answered that it was the hospitable people .Actually, I  described  the Bangladeshi people as "hot''. I went on to explain that the hospitality of the Bangladeshi people was just like the hot weather.  They laughed heartily.

Since the schedule was tight, the tasks were heavy, and the Dhaka time is two hours behind Beijing time, our five day stay in Bangladesh was mostly spent interviewing and writing news stories. Fortunately, the Bangladeshi people were so warm-hearted that we totally forgot tiredness and home sickness.

In order to ensure our safety on the train, a staff member was specially designated by The Independent to keep our company from Dhaka to Chittagong. Upon arriving in Chittagong, it was already deep into the night. When we learnt that the staff member had to take the train back to Dhaka the next moming, we were deeply moved. In the midday heat, Mr.Mamou, 65 years of age, ac companied us throughout our interview in Chittagong and enthusiastically introduced to us the history, culture and life of Bangladesh. Itwas my second interviewing experience abroad and I felt that one's perception of a county largely depends on the manners and behaviours of the local people. The hospitality of the Bangladeshi people left me a really good impress SIOn. Upon returning to China; I sent to Mr. Mamou some of his photos by email.

On May 18, Mr.  Mamou replied, “Please   always remember me. Do not forget viewing together in Chittagong. Please send my regards to other friends. "
