Two cement industries fined

Chattogram office of Department of Environment (DoE) fined two cement industries of Patenga area in the city with Taka 13.58 lakh yesterday on the charge of pollution. Director of DoE, Azadur Rahman Mallick pronounced the penalty after hearing at the DoE office. Heidelberg Cement Limited in Nasirabad industrial area was fined Taka 5.6 lakh while NGS Cement Industries at north Potenga was fined Taka 7.98 lakh. Earlier, Department of Environment (DoE), Chattogram fined Taka 3.5 lakh to Saleh Steel Industries Limited in city’s Bayezid area for polluting environment by releasing excessive unrefined smoke in the air. Director of DoE, Azadur Rahman Mallik pronounced the penalty after a hearing at DoE office on Tuesday. DoE Director said that Saleh Steel breached the terms and conditions of steel rerolling mills by releasing black smoke.
