A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Jatrapur Chaporbari in Ashuganj upaizla early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Saddam Hossain, 26, son of Kangal Mia of Sarail upazila. Jabed Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Ashuganj Police Station, said they raided the area around 1:15am acting on a tip-off that a gang of robbers was there. The criminals opened fire as soon as police reached the spot, triggering a skirmish. At one stage, Saddam was caught in the line of fire while trying to flee the scene. Four policemen were also injured. Police arrested Akash, 27, Hridoy, 25, and Ashraful, 25 – from the spot.
