Bangladesh to take part in men’s, women’s cricket

Sports Reporter, Dhaka

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the apex body of the country’s cricket, is drawing up their plans for the upcoming South Asian Games (SA Games), where the discipline of cricket has been included with other disciplines.

This year the S A Games whose official name the XIII South Asian Games, a major regional multi-sport event, will now be held in Kathmandu and Pokhara, Nepal from December 1–10, 2019 though it was originally slated to be held from March 9-18. But it was not possible to host the meet in that period of time due to the unfinished of the infrastructure for the event.

The BCB will send both men’s and women’s teams in the Games where a total of eight teams including Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives, Afghanistan and hosts Nepal will participate in the 10-day-long meet.

The board will announce their men’s team beside their eves’ team in the aftermath of the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup, hosted by Bangladesh from November 12-20.

Regarding the matter, BCB Games Development senior national manager AEM Kawser said they will send their Emerging team making a bit change as there is a criteria to include three national players with the Under-23 players.

“We have plans to send our Emerging Team in the SA Games as they have no engagement at this moment,” said AEM Kawser.

“It could be a problem for us if Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) would be held in the same period of time. But what we are getting to know through media, the BPL is not being held in due time. It may be delayed for some days. So, we could participate and finish the meet swimmingly” Kawser told The Independent.

“Now we’ve plans to announce our men’s squad after the conclusion of the Emerging Teams Asia Cup, Bangladesh-2019. Three national team’s players will be added to the squad as per the condition of the tournament. They will hold a short training camp before flying to Nepal,” he added.

But there is no precondition for the formation of the women’s team. If the participating team thinks to send their national team, they can send it.
