Newly appointed red-ball captain Mominul Haque said, he is ready to take the new challenge but want to keep continue playing his natural game and after being getting surprised by the BCB call to name him as the Test captain for the upcoming India series.
Talking to the reporters at the SBNCS Mominul said yesterday, “I’ve never played with that extra pressure, extra responsibility being as a captain. It actually creates some extra pressure. The way I previously played for the team it will be same for me. If I consider I’m the captain, I’ve a lot to do, it will affect my performance. But, if I play according to the team’s need, it won’t affect my natural playing style.”
Mominul Haque, who surprisingly handed the responsibility to lead the Test side in the absence of regular Test skipper Shakib Al Hasan, said, he along with the whole team is ready to take the India challenge.
Talking about the challenges, Mominul said, “Cricket is always and everywhere challenging. But the challenges will be little bit higher in India. So, we all have been preparing for that and I’m preparing myself to take that challenge too,” said Mominul.
“I also think it’s a mental issue when you are talking about the challenges. But, if you take it positively to overcome the challenges it would be good. It is also important to take preparation keeping all those in mind,” he further added when asked about the hard times that Bangladesh might face playing against India who outsmarted South Africa in some style in the recently concluded three-match Test series.
“I wasn’t prepared at all for that. It was totally unexpected. I’ve never imagined I will lead the Bangladesh team. It wasn’t even in my dreams,” he said about his own thoughts after given the captaincy role.
Despite being having two senior cricketers like Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim in the side, the BCB selectors named Mominul Haque to captain the side for the upcoming two Test matches against India.
When asked about it Mominul said, “It’s a difficult question to answer. It’s Board decision. So, to be honest it’s a tough question to answer for me,” said Mominul, who also captained the Bangladesh ‘A’ team recently.
Talking about the day-night Test match, Mominul viewed, “It’s a good opportunity to play with the pink ball under lights. We’ve never played with the pink ball. So, if we can play good cricket it will be fantastic. I am considering it as a great opportunity.”
He also said, Shakib and Tamim’s absence is a huge opportunity for youngsters to express their talents. After Bangladesh have some sort of momentum with them after beating India in the first T20I Mominul hopes to carry momentum to the Test matches.
“If you talk about our recent crisis, that win was very important for us. I think it will gear up the players and carry their confidence into the Test matches,” he concluded.
