After running successfully in the theatres in West Bengal, Indian Bengali film ‘Konttho’ is now set to hit different cinemas in Bangladesh. The film will be released in 20 cinema halls across the country tomorrow.

Jointly directed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, the film is being distributed in Bangladesh by Impress Telefilm Limited under the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) agreement.

Inspired by the life of the Bibhuti Chakraborty, a survivor of laryngeal cancer, the film casts Indian actors Shiboprosad Mukherjee, Paoli Dam and celebrated Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan in the lead roles.

With the film’s release just around the corner, a press meet was arranged at the office of Channel i the capital yesterday. Director duo Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, and actress Jaya Ahsan spoke about their film at the event.

Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, president of Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association, was also present at the press meet.

Nandita Roy said she had a big dream that ‘Konttho’ would be released in Bangladesh and the people of Bangladesh would watch the film. “‘Konttho’ is not merely a film, it’s a fight for survival”, she added.

Shiboprosad Mukherjee said, “I don’t want to say anything afresh, because everything is depicted in the film.” He believes that the film will be enjoyable to the audience.

Jaya Ahsan said, “‘Konttho’ is actually special project to me as it was a vivid journey for me. Artistes play so many roles in this world of acting, but only a few characters they portray leave a mark in their life, and my character Romilla in this film still stays within me. I would like to request the audience to watch it in the theatres to witness an inspiring film narrating the struggle between life and death.”

The film will be screened at the Star Cineplex, Blockbuster Cinemas, Shaymoli Cinema Hall, Modhumita and Balaka Cineworld in the capital and Chattograms’ Siver Screen and Almas, and different cinema halls in Joydebpur, Bogura, Mymensingh and Khulna, among others.
