RAB files charge-sheet against Samrat

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) yesterday (Wednesday) filed a charge-sheet against expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, one of the casino kingpins, in a case filed under the Arms Act. Shekhar Chandra Mallik, sub-inspector of RAB-1, submitted the charge-sheet before the court of the chief metropolitan magistrate (CMM). Samrat has been grilled by RAB for 10 days in two cases filed under the Arms Act and Narcotics Control Act.

On October 17, the Detective Branch of the police handed over expelled Dhaka South unit Jubo League president Samrat and vice-president Enamul Haque Arman to RAB-1 as it was assigned for further investigation into the cases. Mizanur Rahman, senior assistant director of RAB (legal and media wing), said that the DB was investigating both cases filed with Ramna police station against Samrat and Arman. They were being interrogated there on remand.

On October 16, RAB was assigned the investigation into the cases. The two were taken into RAB custody yesterday afternoon as part of the investigation. On Oct 15, Samrat was put on a 10-day remand in two cases filed under the Arms Act and Narcotics Control Act, while Arman was placed on a five-day remand in the case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.  The investigating officer of the cases produced Samrat and Arman before the court with a remand petition.

On October 9, the same court had fixed October 15 for remand hearing, as Samrat could not be produced before the court on that day due to illness. Samrat was admitted to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases on October 10 as he fell ill. He was taken to the central jail after recovery on Saturday. RAB arrested Samrat and Arman in Cumilla on October 6.
