Cop suspended for ‘torturing’ housewife

The sub-inspector of Gabtoli Police Station Ripon Mia was suspended and attached to Bogura Police line on Tuesday after he reportedly tortured a housewife as she withdrew a case filed against her husband.

 Locals said Ripon tortured and threatened the victim Monira Akhtar, wife of Imran Hossain on Khupi village in Gabtoli upazila on Sunday night and later, she was admitted to Bogura Mohammad Ali Hospital.

Bogura Superintendent of Police Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan said after primary inspection Ripon was suspended and Assistant Police Superintendent Ahmed Raziur Rahman was appointed to probe the matter.

Departmental action will be taken against Ripon if investigation report finds allegations brought against him to be true, he said.
