President, PM greet cooperatives�members

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday greeted all cooperators on the occasion of the 44th National Cooperatives Day to be observed in the country today, reports BSS. In separate messages on the eve of the day, they wished success of all programmes of the day. In his message, President Abdul Hamid urged cooperators to work with sincerity, honesty and devotion and play a significant role in cooperative movement to build a peaceful and prosperous Bangladesh.
He said the importance of cooperatives is immense for poverty alleviation, self-employment creation and development of mutual unity and compassion.
The President said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman attached special importance to cooperatives for establishing exploitation-free 'Golden Bengal' through alleviation of hunger, poverty and unemployment from the society.
To implement the dream of Bangabandhu, sustainable development would have to be ensured in the country, he added.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said the present government is pledge-bound to build a hunger-free prosperous Bangladesh by increasing production and creating employment opportunities.
Cooperatives can play a special role in this regard, she added.
She recalled that the greatest Bangalee of all times Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave constitutional recognition to cooperatives to consolidate the economy of the war-ravaged country.
Following the footsteps of the Father of the Nation, the present government is giving priority to cooperatives, she added.
"We are giving special importance to cooperatives to gain the goals of Vision-2021," the Prime Minister said.
She highlighted the steps taken by her government for the development of cooperatives and hoped cooperatives movement would expedite in the country.
The Prime Minister called for creation of new entrepreneurs by accumulating small savings through cooperatives.
