The purpose of the World Stroke Campaign

To send a unified, consistent message around the world in order to ensure sustained focus and effort on global stroke issues.

To create maximum awareness of the steps we can all take to prevent stroke.

To increase public awareness of the signs of stroke and the appropriate action to take.

To influence policy makers to put action and investment in stroke higher on national, regional and international public health agendas.

To build partnerships with stakeholders from across all sectors and from all disease-oriented organizations to prevent stroke and improve access to treatment.

To advocate for access to specialist treatment, quality care and support for stroke survivors and caregivers.

To advocate for the establishment of specialist stroke units in all corners of the world and support the development of a health care system that responds to the needs of everyone dealing with the impact of stroke, including families and caregivers.

Stroke and SDG 3

In 2015 governments around the world committed to a new global blueprint to deliver peace and prosperity for all. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development sets out a series of development goals which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership.

They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth. Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG3) commits governments to taking action to ensure good health and to promote well-being of all people of all ages.

Within SDG3 are specific targets related to tackling non-communicable diseases - including stroke - which pose a major challenge to sustainable development in all countries of the world.
